Smash recap – 1×01: “Pilot”

February 6, 2012 by tvangie

Courtesy of NBC

Let me start out by saying that I am a theatre nut. I’ve always loved Broadway musicals (even the small ones) and have done my time working in community theatre for many years. So ever since we were teased with Smash in early 2011, I’ve been breaking out in spontaneous jazz hands with anticipation. But does one of the most buzz-worthy shows of the season live up to its hype?

Let’s break it down after the jump. (Please note this recap contains SPOILERS)

Commentary – ‘Gimme All Your Luvin’ video – Madonna

Madonna, the reigning queen of pop, is back in the spotlight in a big way. With her new movie W.E., her superbowl halftime show, her press tour and her new album, she seems to be everywhere. Friday saw the release of her new video for her single ‘Give Me All Your Luvin,’ (click to watch) featuring Nicki Minaj and MIA.

Just like she did when Britney was exploding, Madonna is back to show Gaga how it’s done. Or is she? Let’s discuss. [Read more…]

Fringe recap – 4×11: “Making Angels”

February 4, 2012 by tvangie

After many episodes of just hanging out in the background, we get a double dose of Astrid (Jasika Nicole) in this week’s Fringe offering. Even though I wouldn’t classify this as an Astrid-centric episode, proper – it still gave us plenty of great moments and interesting tidbits of this loved character throughout.

Let’s take a closer look after the jump. [Read more…]

Review: I Just Want My Pants Back – 1×01: ‘Pilot’

February 4, 2012 by Joe Lipsett

Courtesy of MTV

For the longest time I avoided MTV shows like the plague. While I understood the appeal of their reality TV line-up (Jersey Shore, The Real World), I’m wasn’t personally interested in them. And, if we’re being honest, I’m judgy. Even when I heard the cable channel was getting back into scripted shows, I didn’t bite. Then last summer I watched Awkward and it became my #4 best show of 2011. Thus when I heard about a new comedy called I Just Want My Pants Back, I decided to give it a go to see if lightning struck twice.

Let’s bitch it out… [Read more…]

The Secret Circle recap – 1×13: ‘Medallion’

February 3, 2012 by Joe Lipsett

Courtesy of The CW

As much as I’m enjoying this first season of The Secret Circle, there are times when I think it should be renamed “Pretty People Who Make Bad Decisions.” Oh sure, that wouldn’t really distinguish it from many of the other CW shows, but it just seems as though this particular group of teens is prone to trusting the wrong people, making poor life decisions and almost dying.

30 Rock recap: 6×05: ‘Today You Are a Man’

Do my eyes and ears deceive me? Is that character growth I see for Kenneth? I never once thought I would need to say this, but thank the good Lord for Suze Orman!

Justified recap – 3×03: ‘Harlan Roulette’

February 1, 2012 by Joe Lipsett

As Alan Sepinwall says: “With all the players now on the board, the games can really begin.” We’re only three episodes in, but already the stakes are high and the bodies are piling up.

Alcatraz recap: 1 x 04: “Cal Sweeney”

January 31, 2012 by tvangie

Alcatraz gives us a substantial breadcrumb this week as it (slightly) advances the mythology plot. But is it tempting enough to keep me watching and recapping?

Find out after the jump. [Read more…]

Lost Girl recap – 1×03: ‘Oh Kappa, My Kappa’

January 30, 2012 by Joe Lipsett

Last week Lost Girl ended with some naked sexy shenanigans (sexnanigans?). This week’s episode begins immediately afterwards Bo (Anna Silk) and Dyson (Kris Holden-Reid) explore some sexual boundaries in an otherwise routine “case of the week.”

Let’s bitch it out…
