Sex dreams can be fun, but when you dream about someone you know, you usually wake up feeling dirty and maybe a little curious. Last night’s episode of Happy Endings had a few of our friends experiencing some of those awkward situations involving Dave (Zachary Knighton). And it was all set to the awesomeness that is ‘Baker Street’ by Gerry Rafferty. How did the gang cope with these nightmares on Baker Street? Let’s dish.
The best laughs of the night come after Dave gets a liquor license, which turns his “Steak Me Home Tonight” truck into the newest Chicago hot spot. The funny bits focus on the results when the gang gets a taste of his new cocktail, Whore’s Bath, which causes sexy dreams about the V-necked meat man.
Brad (Damon Wayans Jr.) and Jane (Eliza Coupe) hit it out of the park, of course. Their scene in bed is by far the funniest in the episode – from Brad’s imitation of Jane’s varied nighttime screams to his own scream of horror after having his own sexy dream. To top it all off we even got a Dinosaurs reference (see below), that wonderful 90s TGIF sitcom. (Side Note: I am pretty sure it was my generation’s Caveman, although it managed to last more than three episodes). This causes the dream team of Brad and Jane, as well as Penny (Casey Wilson) to start avoiding Dave. Luckily for him he has new friends, including Colin Hanks. Did I mention Colin Hanks was in the episode? Doing his best impression of himself? I wish I had more to say about this, but he was only on for what seemed like 30 seconds and there were so many other great parts to the episode. So, yeah…Colin Hanks was there. Moving on!
The Penny and Alex (Elisha Cuthbert) cleanse also provided some great moments including a rather dark bit of humor when Penny, crazy from the cleanse, attempts to jump off Jane’s balcony. It’s a little darker than usual, but effin’ hilarious!! Casey Wilson really got the opportunity to shine this week, including the best line of the night (see below). I also enjoyed the scene of her eating waffles in bed and getting caught by Alex. And, of course, I have to mention the last scene with Alex in bed with Dave, after a sexy dream…with Dave. Are the showrunners setting up a love triangle between Penny, Dave and Alex? I love how they tease us with these little moments (always at the very end of an episode). Only time will tell if this is just their way of playing with us or if this will all actually lead somewhere.
Max (Adam Pally), meanwhile, was back in relationship mode. This means we got more of the charming and easy-on-the-eyes Grant (James Wolk). To a certain extent this felt like a “very special episode” of Happy Endings, though, because Max has issues over his future with Grant after the latter admits that he doesn’t want children.
This is a really great episode for Adam Pally. His character is showing some serious growth and Pally is giving it week after week. He truly delivers, from over the top slapstick to more reserved moments. I wish we could’ve gotten more time with these two, especially since the break-up seems somewhat rushed, but at the same time it feels like an appropriate ending to the relationship (and technically they’re just on a break). Hopefully this means that we haven’t seen the last of Grant…if only because I want to see more of those “Grant + Max 4eva” tees. They need to market this shit. Also included in this story: the night’s best sight gag as Max literally holds his horses.
Best lines of the night:
Jane: “Didn’t you have a sex dream about Fran Sinclair, the mom dinosaur from Dinosaurs?”
Best line of the night courtesy of Penny: “Uh, yeah David. I did take a whore’s bath. I had a one night stand and didn’t have time for a shower. So did I rub some dryer sheets on my pits and splash some water on my hush in the bathroom of an Au Bon Pain? Yes, I did!” I loved how defiant she was in her reaction. Of course, this makes for an awkward moment after she learns he was only asking her if she would like to try his new cocktail.” Hilarious!!
Alex: “I signed us up for a mini-triathlon. So if anyone asks, we’re dwarves”
What did you think, Happy Enders: are you sad to see Grant go? Do you wish that they would market some of these hilarious t-shirts the show creates (other options include a line of deep-Vs courtesy of Dave, or maybe Alex’s baby tees from ‘Baby Steps’)? Finally, would you sample Whore’s Bath if it meant having a sexy dream about Dave…or would you rather dream of another member of the cast? Let us know below!

Nightmare screams were hilarious. The best. Also loved the scene when Brad starting yelling when Dave came into the cafe… it’s making me laugh right now!
