Continuum recap – 1×02: ‘Fast Times’

June 4, 2012 by Joe Lipsett

Courtesy of Showcase

Last week Continuum had a creatively promising (and commercially successful) launch, but there were lingering concerns about how the series would develop moving forward. After viewing the second episode of the season, I can say that the show is already well on its way to addressing those concerns.

Let’s bitch it out… [Read more…]

Teen Wolf recap – 2×01: ‘Omega’

Welcome to season two, Teen Wolf fans! After a long wait, our core cast of characters is back – stronger, more grown up and more battle ready. Oh, and they’re still ridiculously hot (Colton Haynes = swoon).

Let’s dig in to part one of the two part opener, ‘Omega’.

Girls recap – 1×08: ‘Weirdos Need Girlfriends Too’

Ahh the honeymoon phase of a relationship, when everything seems just perfect and you just can’t stop loving that special person in your life. Every relationship starts off this way…until the cracks start to appear. Like when your partner purposefully pees on you in the shower and thinks it’s the funniest thing.

Did I mention Adam (Adam Driver) was weird?

Let’s discuss. [Read more…]

Mad Men recap – 5×12: ‘Commissions and Fees’

In the penultimate episode of the season, Mad Men gives us the return of Don Draper (Jon Hamm): Ad Man Extraordinaire, riding on the heels of a much talked about Jaguar win. But what is the cost of winning such business? For one: a deeply disturbing and shocking death of one of my favourite characters.

Let’s take a closer look after the jump.

Game Of Thrones recap – 2×10: ‘Valar Morghulis’

This is it, friends: the epic conclusion of the second season of HBO’s Game Of Thrones. After last week’s single location, all action Battle of Blackwater Bay, would the final episode excite or would it falter under extreme expectations?

Film Review: Snow White And The Huntsman

June 2, 2012 by Joe Lipsett

It’s been a slow summer for movies thus far: aside from the box office phenomenon that is The Avengers, the last few weeks have been filled with films that disappointed (critically, commercially and in the court of public opinion). So I was looking forward to some revisionist grrrrl-feminism from Snow White And The Huntsman this weekend to get the party started. Alas, I should have braced myself for more disappointment.

Let’s bitch it out…Major spoilers ahead (mostly because I don’t think you should see it) [Read more…]

Flashback recap – Doctor Who 4×08-4×09: ‘Silence In The Library’ and ‘Forest Of The Dead’

The Doctor Who Project: At the behest of TVAngie (and many, many of my students), I’ve been catching up on the 2005 revision of Doctor Who. I’ll be posting my thoughts on some of the big episodes as I make my way up through the series. Thus far I’ve tackled ‘Blink’ – a series high point – and 4×03 ‘Planet Of The Ood’ – a weaker episode that seems reflective of the quality of the first half of the fourth season. With the arrival of River Song (Alex Kingston), however, things seem back on the path to recovery.

Flashback recap – Doctor Who 4×03: ‘Planet Of The Ood’

The Doctor Who Project: At the behest of TVAngie (and many, many of my students), I’ve been catching up on the 2005 revision of Doctor Who. I’ll be posting my thoughts on some of the big episodes as I make my way up through the series. Last week I tackled ‘Blink’ – which was a series high point – so it’s a little ironic that I’m following that up with one of the weaker episodes in recent seasons: 4×03’s ‘Planet Of The Ood’. Or as I’ve subtitled it: “Why I never want to see the Ood again”.

Girls recap – 1×07: ‘Welcome to Bushwick, a.k.a. The Crackcident’

May 28, 2012 by yellowwait

Courtesy of HBO

After last week’s Hannah-centric (Lena Dunham) episode, we find the girls back together, in the funniest episode to date, heading to Bushwick to attend a warehouse party. While the intention was to attend the “best party ever,” the evenings festivities were complicated by the various men in their lives…and Ray (Alex Karpovsky).

Continuum recap – 1×01: ‘A Stitch In Time’

May 28, 2012 by Joe Lipsett

Last night Canadian viewers got a look at the new sci-fi series Continuum on Showcase. The series, created by one of the minds behind FOX’s 24, joins the ranks of other Canadian genre shows, a group that includes hit series, Lost Girl. So how does this one stack up to the others?
