The Walking Dead review – 3×13: ‘Arrow On The Doorpost’

March 11, 2013 by tvangie

We finally get our face-to-face showdown this week on The Walking Dead when Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and The Governor (David  Morrissey) meet in a shack in the woods for a good ol’ fashioned negotiation. After last week’s amazing standalone episode, how does a return to the Team Woodbury/Team Grimes conflict fare?

Revenge review – 2×15: ‘Retribution’

Revenge returns to address the fall-out from Fauxmanda’s (an unseen Margarita Levieva) watery death in the last episode. But there’s barely any time for grief when there’s planning and plotting to do and everyone has an agenda that they’re desperately trying to implement.

Once Upon A Time review – 2×16: ‘The Miller’s Daughter’

The promise of a darker series has come to fruition as Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) acts on her vow to kill Cora (Barbara Hershey). In an episode that manages to feel both agonizingly slow (let’s hang out in the pawn shop for 40 minutes!) and radically fast (those final ten minutes), ‘The Miller’s Daughter’ resets many character relationships in a bold move that will cause reverberations for the remainder of the season.

Grimm review – 2×13: ‘Face Off’

March 9, 2013 by Joe Lipsett

After fifteen weeks off the air, Grimm returns with an episode that lays all of its cards on the table as Nick (David Giuntoli) and Renard (Sasha Roiz) find out the truth about one another and it finally come to blows. However, the not-so-epic battle is little more than a prelude as it’s practically over after it begins. Regardless of whether or not the pay-off has been worth the build-up, it’s clear that the series is moving into a new direction now that Nick knows Renard’s secret.

Spartacus: War Of The Damned review – 3×06: ‘Spoils Of War’

March 9, 2013 by Joe Lipsett

Haircuts, branding and quartering – oh my! Spartacus removes the titular character as we focus on how the Romans celebrate victory in a unique episode that seems designed to realign our sympathies with the rebels (despite the horrors they inflicted on their Roman prisoners). ‘Spoils Of War’ ups the ante as Crassus (Simon Merrells) takes possession of the city of Sinuessa and orders a pretty despicable celebration in honour of man of the hour, Caesar (Todd Lasance).

Too bad the future victim of Brutus is too peeved to truly enjoy it – what with assassinations attempts and annoyance that the rebel king hasn’t been caught serving as distractions. Naturally he deals with these set-backs the only way a grown man can: he cuts off his long blonde locks. Makes sense to me!

Smash review – 2×05: ‘The Read-Through’

March 6, 2013 by yellowwait

After last week’s subpar episode, this week Smash rebounds to regain its second season above-average status while giving us a look at three shows in the making. My questions: where is J-Hud? Where has Nikki Blonsky been hiding? And why is Christian Borle not singing in every episode?

Justified review – 4×09: ‘The Hatchet Tour’

The season long mystery of finding Drew Thompson has been solved (sort of). The problem is that it’s exactly who we thought it would be.

Bo (Anna Silk) must conquer her familial demons before she can begin her training to survive The Dawning. So why is she wasting time kicking b*tches down wells?

After a weak offering last week, The Walking Dead fires back with ‘Clear’ delivering one of the best episodes of the entire series. The return of a beloved character proves to be just the catalyst the series needs to reinvigorate the third season as it heads into the home stretch.

Let’s break it down after the jump.
