In the interest of saving time in the lead-up to season three (next Monday, January 16), the Justified marathon continues with a multi-episode recap. As the second season hits its middle stretch the action heats up and a recurring character is finally given something to do.

Film Review – Shame

January 9, 2012 by Joe Lipsett

Courtesy of See-Saw Films

There are several actors that have been garnering critical acclaim for roles in less than spectacular films this season (including Meryl Streep in The Iron Lady and Leonardo DiCaprio in J. Edgar). While director Steve McQueen’s indie, Shame (2011), hasn’t made enough buzz to be considered a candidate for much other than Michael Fassbender’s performance, I would argue that the film itself is quite strong beyond the single performance.

The Firm recap – 1×01/02: ‘Pilot’ / ‘Chapter 2’

January 9, 2012 by Joe Lipsett

Courtesy of NBC

The Firm is an NBC show based on the 1993 film starring a pre-couch jumping Tom Cruise (the film itself is an adaptation of the 1991 novel by John Grisham). Interestingly enough, the television series is not a remake, but a sequel to the events of the film. So how does  Mitch McDeere (now played by Josh Lucas) find himself once againworking for an evil corporation?

Let’s break it down after the break… [Read more…]

The Secret Circle recap – 1×10: ‘Darkness’

January 6, 2012 by Joe Lipsett

Courtesy of The CW

After what seems like months, The Secret Circle returns with a brand new episode that focuses primarily on the girls – Britt Robertson’s Cassie (the good one who might be bad) and Phoebe Tonkin’s Faye (the bad one who’s more of a poser). As the show nears the half-way point of its first season, it’s beginning to settle into a certain formula. Whether this is good or bad depends on how much you like irrelevant danger.

Let’s break it down… [Read more…]

Happy Endings recap – 02×10: ‘The Shrink, The Dare, Her Date and Her Brother’

January 5, 2012 by yellowwait

Courtesy of ABC

Well it’s the new year, and I have already forgotten about my resolutions, but luckily a new episode of Happy Endings is here to distract me. The first half of this season has been a little rocky for our beloved show, but if this episode is any indication of what’s to come, then we are in for a treat. So much to discuss and gush over so let’s have at! [Read more…]

Review: House of Lies- 1×01: ‘Gods of Dangerous Financial Instruments’

January 5, 2012 by Joe Lipsett

Courtesy of Showtime

After the success of Homeland (aka the show I named the best show of 2011), Showtime has a lot of goodwill on its hands. So it’s somewhat disappointing that their follow-up,  the smarmy management consultant half hour comedy House of Lies, is such a mixed bag.

Let’s break it down…(Spoilers ahead) [Read more…]
