You can nearly always tell when the showrunners are directly involved in an episode, can’t you? These episodes feel stronger, clearer, more tightly plotted and with a greater sense of purpose. The involvement of Game Of Thrones’ showrunners Benioff and Weiss in ‘Walk Of Punishment’ is clearly evident and the result is the strongest episode since 2×09 ‘Blackwater.’

It’s another busy episode of Game Of Thrones, but unlike last week’s premiere, this episode feels less introductory due to a better flow, primarily because of very strongly staged transitions between scenes. Also: it’s ladies night as the female actresses put on one hell of a show.

As we move into the final episodes of the second season, Game Of Thrones goes into ‘chatty cathy’ mode as characters discuss their plans, vent their frustrations and generally make demands or threats of one another. So it’s basically a regular episode, only with fewer action scenes.

I can say without a doubt that Game Of Thrones is my most difficult show to recap. Probably because it feels like there is so much going on and there are so many characters that it’s a struggle to do more than simply reiterate what happens in each episode. So let’s give this third episode, ‘What Is Dead May Never Die’ the good ole’ fashioned try since it handily broke the action down to a few key places.
