Once Upon A Time recap – 1×07: ‘The Heart is a Lonely Hunter’

December 12, 2011 by Joe Lipsett

Courtesy of ABC

Well, that’s it for Once Upon A Time. Not because I’m breaking up with the show (oh hells no), but simply because it’s reached the end of its fall run and will take a break until January 8 (according to Michael Ausiello’s scoresheet). One bonus of the show starting so late this fall is that it will have extra episodes to air in the Winter. Which is good because there will be plenty of fall-out to deal with from “The Heart is a Lonely Hunter.’ Major spoilers ahead.

The Best of Being Erica

December 12, 2011 by tvangie

Well viewers, we’ve reached that point – Being Erica has its very last episode tonight (sniff). I thought it was fitting (especially considering how uneven this season has been) to remind myself why I think Being Erica has been one of the most interesting and engaging shows of late (serious bonus points for being a decidedly Canadian show as well).

So let’s take a quick trip down memory lane and take a look at some of Being Erica’s best moments (in chronological order).

*Obviously there are many more great scenes that aren’t included in this list. These scenes represent those which really stuck out to me as being something special and memorable. It is by no means an exhaustive list. Please share your top picks in the comments!

Justified recap – 2×03: ‘The I of the Storm’

December 8, 2011 by Joe Lipsett

I was initially skeptical of ‘The I of the Storm,’ the third episode of Justified‘s second season. It seemed as though things were going to play out like just another stand-alone episode with the Bennett family nowhere in sight. And then somewhere between the hijacking of the bus full of Oxycontin and Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) driving down the road with a man hanging out of his truck, I realized that this episode had caught me completely by surprise. This was one of those episodes that starts off so-so but is secretly laying groundwork for future conflict.

Happy Endings recap – 2×09: ‘Grinches Be Crazy’

December 8, 2011 by yellowwait

Last night was the last new episode of our beloved Happy Endings until the New Year, as well as being the Christmas-themed episode. This was the last impression we have until the show starts airing new episodes in the new year – more than a month from now. Did they hit it out of the park? Did they leave us wanting more? Well…not so much. But for a show that leads with its comedy first and it’s heart last, this episode did give us a few gifts to keep us warm until January.

Let’s get to it. [Read more…]

Revenge recap – 1×10: ‘Loyalty’

December 8, 2011 by Joe Lipsett

And that’s it folks! The fall finale of our beloved Revenge is one for the books. I’ve been waiting two weeks for Emily (Emily VanCamp) to utter the lines “You fell in love with a hooker” and it was well worth the wait! It’s like the holiday gift I never knew I wanted.

Justified recap – 2×01/2×02: ‘The Moonshine War’ / ‘The Life Inside’

December 6, 2011 by Joe Lipsett

With the third season of FX’s critically acclaimed series Justified prepping to launch in January, bitchstolemyremote is marathoning season two to catch up. I finished season one last week, itching to find out what would happen next in the ongoing sibling-rivalry-esque battle between US Deputy Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) and his childhood friend turned criminal Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins).

Being Erica recap – 4×10: ‘Purim’

December 6, 2011 by tvangie

Courtesy of CBC

Being Erica had a pretty strong comeback with its second last episode of the season. Yes viewers, thanks to my trusty PVR descriptors – I scrolled ahead to next week and saw that indeed episode 11, titled “Dr. Erica” is our series finale (sniff). Although I’ve ranted about how uneven season four has been, as I’ve alluded to in previous posts and comments , the series as a whole has really been something special. I’ve gotten hours of entertainment of Erica’s (Erin Karpluk) adventures with Dr. Tom (Michael Riley), it’s offered me the opportunity for much inward reflection and I’m just not at the point of complete disavowal.

The elements which resonate in “Purim” really encapsulate what’s great about the entire series. So without further ado, let’s take a closer look… [Read more…]

Homeland recap – 1×10: ‘Representative Brody’

December 6, 2011 by Joe Lipsett

Courtesy of Showtime

As we inch closer to the season finale of arguably the best show on television this fall, Homeland slows down to do some final character work and ramp up the tension in a few key scenes. We’re no close to finding Tom Walker (Chris Chalk), but there were nevertheless big developments for both Carrie (Claire Danes) and Brody (Damian Lewis) in ‘Representative Brody.’

Once Upon A Time recap – 1×06: ‘The Shepherd’

December 4, 2011 by Joe Lipsett

As I mentioned last week, the story that I feel the greatest emotional investment in is the story of Prince Charming and Snow White. Not only are they the most recognizable of the fairy tales, but the inversion of their more familiar tales has been entertaining, mostly unexpected and emotional. The danger with this show and its broad audience is the temptation to tell the story to the lowest margin (in this case kids), but the stories of princesses and their charming knights has a near universal appeal.

So how did the show handle its return to their most poignant storyline?

Let’s break it down… [Read more…]
