Film Review: Pitch Perfect

By all accounts, Pitch Perfect has no right to succeed as well as it does: it’s a film about an a cappella singing competition starring an Oscar nominee (Anna Kendrick for Up In The Air) and features a recurring projectile vomiting gag. So why was the film so much d*mn fun?!

Film review: Total Recall

The updated Len Wiseman remake of Total Recall has arrived and while it gives story credit to the Philip K. Dick original We Can Remember It For You Wholesale, this is basically a remake of the 1990 Paul Verhoeven film. Most critics are panning the film using a variety of unimaginative “memory”-related puns, but it’s easiest just to say its about white people problems.

Film review: Play Dead (Fantastia Film Festival)

Compared to the films I’ve seen at Fantasia Film Festival, the performance film Play Dead is an altogether different beast. Funny, engaging and made to make a viewing audience both squirm and yearn – it’s unlike anything I’ve seen at the festival before.
