Rebekah (Claire Holt) returns in the newest episode of The Originals as she goes on the run from Esther (an unseen Sonja Sohn) and mommy dearest’s plans are revealed.
Let’s bitch it out…
Let’s start with my main man Elijah (Daniel Gillies). It seemed rather obvious that something was going to be different in him when he woke up from Esther’s spell. I’m not sure I was expecting him to turn in to a psycho ripper again, but hey, these surprises keep me on my toes. I hate seeing Elijah this way because he’s supposed to be the sensible. Klaus (Joseph Morgan) is the ripper and Elijah is the calm one. He walks a fine line between doing what is necessary and keeping control. He’s the yin to Klaus’ yang.
But in this episode, we see a role reversal, with Elijah becoming violent at the compound with their brothers and again at the diner, while Klaus is trying to convince Elijah to take a step back and think before acting. Klaus must really want revenge on their mother because its not often we see him advocate for the rational plan. Whatever Esther did to Elijah in that coma, this is not the Elijah I know and love. I’d like him back please, and pronto!
Why oh why is Davina (Danielle Campbell) so damn confident? She is constantly antagonizing an original hybrid, and she wonders why her plans never go the way she would like?! This girl is the Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham from The Vampire Diaries) of New Orleans: a witch who always manages to screw something up and becomes more of a burden than a saviour. At least Davina has some great chemistry with Kol (Daniel Sharman).
Speaking of my new favourite brother, it didn’t take much for Kol to switch sides in this familial battle. That doesn’t surprise me though, it seems like he is a ‘go where the wind takes you’ kind of fella and will go with whatever plan benefits him the most. Can’t really say I blame the guy – he has spent most of his life daggered and locked in a box, so I can forgive him for wanting to live a little. But how sweet was the moment of brotherly love at the end between Kol and Klaus? If Kol wasn’t swayed to their side before, I’d like to think that would’ve pushed him over the edge. Klaus tends to bring out the loyalty in his siblings when he allows himself to be a little vulnerable. I Loved it. More brotherly love scenes to go around!
Well at least Finn (Yusuf Gatewood) was good for something. He told Klaus the story of Dahlia and how baby Hope was better off dead because Dahlia would be coming for her. I guess Finn thought it would help explain their mother’s motives for wanting to kill her grandchild, but instead it just makes her sound like a heartless monster (especially after seeing that adorable baby! Seeing as Daniel Gillies just had a baby in real life, I couldn’t help but hope that this was his real life baby. <Sigh>. But I digress…) It seemed like Finn wasn’t afraid of anything and he has had such a cocky attitude since being in Vincent’s body so it was nice to see him be genuinely scared of being put back in the coffin. He deserves it. Nobody plays my girl Cami (Leah Pipes) like that!
Oh, Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin). Why am I not surprised that you would come up with the most ridiculous idea and then convince your entire pack to rest its hopes and dreams on you following through with said ridiculous plan. Well, she’s nothing if not optimistic. How on earth is she going to marry Jackson (Nathan Parsons) and make it a “real marriage” for the rest of their lives?! Now she’s got the well being of their entire pack resting on her being able to marry this dude and live up to the dreams he’s had of her his whole life. Yes, Jack is cute, but that does not a marriage make! However, something tells me Hayley will really relish being the official queen of the pack.
Other Observations:
- Poor Cami. Can’t catch a break. I really thought she had been kidnapped by Esther, so obviously I was skeptical when we first see her wake up in bed. I was looking for signs that Esther had jumped bodies in to Cami. I’m thinking it was rough for her listening to Finn outline all the reasons why she would be a good host body, including because she’s alone and no one would notice changes in her behaviour. Poor girl.
What did you think of tonight’s episode? Do you think Kol is really on their side? Do you think Hayley will be able to follow through with this plan? Do you think they will be able to bring Elijah back? Sound off below!
