Continuum review – 1×06: ‘Time’s Up’

July 9, 2012 by Joe Lipsett

Courtesy of Showcase

It’s been two weeks since the last new Continuum so the momentum has slowed down a tad. And while ‘Time’s Up’ doesn’t necessarily prove to be the most energizing of the series’ six episodes, it does provide a deviation point in the methodologies of Liber8.

The Newsroom review – 1×03: ‘The 112th Congress’

If context is the key to a well-informed electorate, as Will and his staff declare as their new mission statement, why isn’t it taken to heart by Sorkin as he writes his characters and their relationships? Why should we care about Jim’s secret crush or Mackenzie’s jealousy if we know so little about them as people?

True Blood review – 5×05: ‘Let’s Boot N’Rally’

July 9, 2012 by Joe Lipsett

True Blood hits saturation point as the number of stories outweighs its ability to do them all justice. So who suffers the most?

Awkward. review – 2×02: ‘Sex, Lies And The Sanctuary’

July 6, 2012 by Joe Lipsett

Courtesy of MTV

Week two of Awkward. finds everyone in a panic as news that a tape of the Sanctuary, the “petri dish” hang-out for drugs and fornication at the school, is about to go public. And now everyone’s secrets are about to be revealed.

Dallas review – 1×05: ‘Truth And Consequences’

The newly renewed Dallas 2.0 hits the half-way point and resolves some of the issues that I was exploring / griping about last week.

Flashback review – The West Wing 2×08: ‘Shibboleth’

Happy Fourth of July, dear readers! It’s a nice afternoon for grabbing a drink and setting off some fireworks. But if you’d like to join me in fictional D.C., we can pardon a turkey or two, discuss the history of the yam in Latin and review the series’ best Thanksgiving episode.

“What’s next?” Find out after the jump…

Teen Wolf review – 2×06: ‘Frenemy’

July 3, 2012 by Joe Lipsett

Courtesy of MTV

Is it too meta to suggest that Teen Wolf knows its target audience so well that it found a way to work in a shout-out within the narrative? If by “target audience” you mean “gays” and by “shout-out” you mean “gay bar”, then no.

We’re back to hard times on Lost Girl as the show seems to be losing its way through the fae-rest.

Film Review: Magic Mike

July 2, 2012 by Joe Lipsett

Be wary of what the ads tell you: Magic Mike may be “the male stripper” movie, but that’s certainly not what you’re getting when you slap down those singles in the ticket line.

The Newsroom review – 1×02: ‘News Night 2.0’

July 2, 2012 by Bitch Stole My Remote

Courtesy of HBO

You’d think with a title like “News Night 2.0” there would be some kind of forward motion happening. But instead of fixing last week’s problems, this second episode of the series only highlights them more. “News Night 0.5” would probably be a better title.
